Dear Church Family,
We have begun the month of June 2020. I always look on my calendar to see what holidays are a part of each month. This month we have Flag Day on the 14th, the first day of summer on the 20th, and Father’s Day the 21st. For me this is a magical month with long days, and a green and flowering world. All of this is taking place in the midst of a pandemic like we haven’t see in 100 years.
I want to reflect on a popular yard sign I’ve been seeing. It reads Faith over Fear! It is a good reminder for me. It is a simple but hard choice. Fear, negativity, and episodes of panic are always the easy choice. People are attracted to the negative and complaining. II Timothy 1:7 says “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Fear robs us of all the good things in life. Fear is addictive. The Bible says 365 times Do Not Fear! There is a command not to fear for every day of the week. God’s power enables us to live by faith when the world is very troubled. God’s love enables us to forgive and rise above hurts to live for a greater purpose. God promises each of us the gift of a sound mind in stressful times. What a promise! A sound mind helps us to live in God’s peace when the world once again is full of troubles. This is not our kingdom. Ours is the kingdom of God.
The church board met last evening and decided how to proceed for the month of June. In all that we do we will practice social distancing by at least 6 feet apart. We will wash our hands and wash what we touch. We will wear face masks when we are inside and closer together. Small team meetings may take place. Sunday school will not begin yet. For the last three Sundays of June we will meet in the grove next door from 10:30 – 11:30 am for a service. The service will include singing, joys and concerns, testimonies of God’s faithfulness, praying, and an interactive bible study style message. Please bring your own chairs, drinks and snacks as you wish. The focus will be on worship and fellowship.
The dates of these three services are June 14, 21, and 28. It will be decided at 6:00 pm the evening before if the weather is OK to gather. It will be announced in your Deacon’s email and you can call church friends if you do not get emails. Please join us only if you feel safe to come. I am looking forward to the worship and fellowship.
